Sanford R. Bender, ARA, LEED AP, CSBA
I am a registered architect, artist, composer and member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators, Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and Society of American Registered Architects.
As an architect, my experience has been primarily in government, judicial, health care, educational, and scientific research facility projects. While my present focus is on disaster preparedness and mitigation for structures located in riparian and marine contexts, I have practiced design and presentation, interdisciplinary project delivery, environmental review, code compliance, and construction administration.
As an artist, I am illustrating a children’s book about the threatened marine life of island reefs.
I am also certified as a LEED Accredited Professional and Sustainable Building Advisor, and in particular researching ecology, oceanography, and meteorology as related to architectural design, disaster mitigation, energy conservation, and environmental public health issues.
I live and work in the Delaware River Valley not far from New York City, Philadelphia, and upriver from the Delaware Bay where the estuary tides flow in and out of the Atlantic Ocean.
